Editor’s note, May 2026: We first published this article in June 2022. We updated it in May 2026 to reflect the current Sweatcoin program. It was updated in May 2026 to reflect the current Sweatcoin program. This update explains how users can earn rewards on your steps with Sweatcoin, including marketplace rewards, Premium earning limits and $SWEAT opt-in rules.
Sweatcoin is a free app that rewards users for walking. It lets members earn rewards on their steps with Sweatcoin, its in-app digital currency.
Today, the app now reports more than 200 million users. Sweatcoin has also held the number one app spot in more than 70 countries.
Members can redeem Sweatcoins on offers, donations and marketplace rewards. But how much value do they actually get from their steps?
How does Sweatcoin help users earn rewards on their steps?

After signing up, members choose between a free or Premium membership. They then connect their device’s health or step-tracking data.
Once connected, the app starts tracking eligible movement. Sweatcoin uses a movement validation algorithm to filter out invalid steps. This helps stop shakes and bumps from counting as real movement.
The app is available on iPhone, Android smartphone and Apple Watch. It can keep tracking steps in the background, depending on device settings.
Earning rewards on your steps with Sweatcoin
Members can earn Sweatcoin through:
- Steps: 1,000 verified steps convert to 1 Sweatcoin, minus a 5% commission. This means 10,000 verified steps can earn 9.5 Sweatcoins.
- Daily rewards: users can earn extra Sweatcoins through in-app reward features. These can include ads, streaks and other daily activities.
- Premium: users can increase their earning potential with Sweatcoin Premium. Premium can raise the number of steps that earn Sweatcoins and $SWEAT. The exact price and benefits can vary by market.

Spending Sweatcoins
Products and offers: Sweatcoin has more than 600 partners. The marketplace includes rewards such as gadgets, digital subscriptions, travel vouchers and crypto-related offers.
The exact rewards change regularly. This keeps the marketplace fresh, but it also makes Sweatcoins harder to value.
Donate to charity: users can join charity challenges and put their steps towards causes.
Bigger ticket offers: users may also see auctions, prize-style offers or higher value rewards. These can give members something to work towards.
What are the advantages?
- Sweatcoin is free to join.
- Members can earn rewards on their steps with Sweatcoin.
- The marketplace changes regularly, which keeps the rewards fresh.
- Users track their steps and progress in the app.
- Sweat Wallet is available for users who want to earn $SWEAT crypto.
What are the limitations?
- Free users have earning limits.
- The user experience still leaves some obvious questions. What is a Sweatcoin worth? If I donate ten Sweatcoins, what dollar value goes to the charity?
- Some rewards can still feel unattainable. Bigger rewards give members a goal, but they may take a long time to reach.
- Marketplace offers can work more like discounts, free trials or “pay postage” offers.
- Sweatcoins cannot generally be redeemed for cash from SweatCo.
What is $SWEAT?
This is where the app gets interesting. Sweatcoin now has a related crypto layer called $SWEAT. Users need to opt in through the Sweatcoin app. They also need the Sweat Wallet app.
Sweatcoins and $SWEAT are not the same thing. The in-app currency is used in the Sweatcoin marketplace. $SWEAT is a crypto token held in Sweat Wallet.
Sweatcoin’s help centre says users cannot currently transfer or exchange Sweatcoins into $SWEAT. The only way to mint $SWEAT is by walking with both apps installed.
Free users can earn $SWEAT from steps between 3,000 and 10,000 per day. Premium users can earn $SWEAT from steps between 3,000 and 20,000 per day.
This adds another engagement layer to the program. It also adds complexity. For members who just want simple rewards for walking, the difference may not be immediately clear.

2026 update: Can you still earn rewards on your steps with Sweatcoin?
Since this article was first published, Sweatcoin has continued to grow. The app now reports more than 200 million users.
The basic idea remains the same. Members earn Sweatcoins from verified movement. Those Sweatcoins can then be spent in the app’s marketplace.
A key change is the split between Sweatcoins and $SWEAT. The in-app reward currency remains Sweatcoins. $SWEAT is a separate crypto token that requires Sweat Wallet.
This keeps Sweatcoin interesting from a loyalty design perspective. It uses movement, rewards, scarcity and crypto mechanics to build engagement.
However, the same issue remains. The program works best as a motivation tool. It is less clear as a way to earn meaningful value from walking.
Summary
Overall, Sweatcoin has delivered an innovative idea. It encourages users to be more consistent with physical activity. However, it still falls short with its rewards.
The app is simple at the surface level. Walk, earn and redeem. The challenge is understanding the actual value of a Sweatcoin.
Sweatcoin could provide more clarity around reward value. This would be useful for donations, bigger ticket offers and rewards with extra costs.
The addition of $SWEAT also makes the program more interesting. It does not make the program simpler.
Despite its challenges, the app is still free and easy to use. It adds an extra bit of motivation to get your daily steps in.
