Editor’s note, April 2026: This article was first published in June 2022. Crown Rewards has since updated parts of the program, including its membership cycle, Status Credit thresholds, hotel earn rate and app-supported sign-up process. The original analysis remains below, with a 2026 update added for current context.
Crown is a chain of casinos across Australia with three locations in Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney that offer services from gambling to accommodation and restaurants. They even provide health and beauty spas and entertainment shows. Crown offers a loyalty program called Crown Rewards, previously known as Signature Rewards.
Crown Rewards: The Program

What is interesting about this program is how the joining process has evolved. Crown now promotes the Crown app as a way to fast track Crown Rewards sign-up, although members still need to visit a Crown Rewards desk to verify their ID. This is an improvement from the earlier offline-only experience, but it still means the join process is not as seamless as many digital loyalty programs.
This may still create a level of friction for some customers. Technology is where the world is going and there is now an even stronger expectation that loyalty programs can be joined, accessed and managed digitally.
Progresión
As mentioned above, progression through this program is via Status Credits. Crown Rewards still has five membership levels: Member, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Black. Black remains invitation only.
The Status Credit thresholds have changed since this article was first published. Crown now lists the requirements as 10 Status Credits for Silver, 40 for Gold and 170 for Platinum. The membership cycle has also been extended from six months to twelve months, with tier review occurring annually on 1 October.
¿Cómo se obtiene un crédito de estatus? Buena pregunta.
Crown now gives more detail than it once did. Members earn 1 Status Credit for 500 Casino Points, 1 Status Credit for 1,000 Hotel Points, or 1 Status Credit for 1,500 Food & Beverage and Retail Points. This helps explain the mechanics more clearly, although the program still asks members to understand the relationship between Points, Status Credits, categories and tier progression.
Let Downs
Where this program becomes a let-down is still the mechanics. Having Points, Status Credits and different earn categories can become increasingly confusing for members. Crown now explains the earning structure more clearly than it did when this article was first published, but it still requires members to understand how Casino Points, Hotel Points, Food & Beverage Points and Retail Points feed into Status Credits.
The program has moved forward with technology, particularly through the Crown app and Member Hub. However, the need to complete ID verification at a Crown Rewards desk still means the join process has some friction compared with fully digital loyalty programs.
2026 update: Crown Rewards has changed, but the complexity remains
Since this article was first published in 2022, Crown Rewards has updated several parts of the program.
The biggest change is the membership cycle. Crown has extended the cycle from six months to twelve months, with tier review now occurring annually on 1 October. The Status Credit thresholds have also changed, with Silver now requiring 10 Status Credits, Gold requiring 40 and Platinum requiring 170. Black remains invitation only.
Crown has also made the joining process more digital. Members can now use the Crown app to fast track sign-up, although they still need to visit a Crown Rewards desk to verify their ID.
These changes improve some of the issues raised in the original article. The program is more clearly explained and more digitally accessible than it was in 2022. However, the broader critique still stands. Crown Rewards offers genuine value, but the relationship between Points, Status Credits, earn categories, tier review and property-specific rules still makes this a program that asks a lot from members.
Conclusión
Overall, while I don’t think Crown Rewards deserves a throne among loyalty programs, this program does provide a great case study for how to provide value back to customers. However, I do think Crown needs to put more forethought into the program as at the moment it feels like a mismatch of competing thoughts all mashed into a single program. Especially in comparison to other casino’s like MGM grand who have a far more compelling program.
Unfortunately, it is far too early to be celebrating a Jubilee for this Crown.
