Education options
Loyalty Programs: The Complete Guide (2nd Edition)
Co-authored by the Loyalty & Reward Co team and led by CEO Philip Shelper, this is the most comprehensive book on loyalty programs available anywhere in the world. It draws on academic research, loyalty psychology, and global industry expertise to cover program design theory, commercial modelling, technology, data, lifecycle marketing, gamification, Web3, security and fraud, and the future of loyalty across over 170 global case studies. The 2nd Edition introduces the Essential Eight™ principles for the first time outside of client engagements, and features a foreword by Professor Thomas O’Toole of Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. The book is an Amazon bestseller, widely used as the industry reference text by loyalty professionals globally, and available in paperback and Kindle from Amazon.
Loyalty Programs: The Complete Masterclass™
Our flagship 2-day course is the world’s leading loyalty education program, covering all aspects of best-practice loyalty programs through a combination of structured learning, global case studies, group discussion, and direct application to participants’ own program contexts. The curriculum spans the history of loyalty programs, loyalty psychology and behavioural economics, program design frameworks, rewards and gamification, member data and lifecycle marketing, loyalty technology and emerging capabilities, commercial modelling and ROI, and security and fraud. Each participant receives a complimentary copy of Loyalty Programs: The Complete Guide (2nd Edition) as their course textbook. The course is certified by the CPD Certification Service, and all graduates are recognised as Certified Loyalty Experts™ and invited to join the global Masterclass alumni network. The course is delivered in-person across our global cities and online.
Tailored staff training and workshops
We design and deliver tailored training workshops for Marketing, Product, CRM, Ecommerce, Finance, and Customer Service teams, ensuring that loyalty thinking, objectives, and success measures are consistent and well understood across the organisation. Workshops are built around each client’s own program mechanics, commercial context, and team maturity level so the learning is immediately applicable rather than generic. They can be run as standalone sessions or as part of a broader program launch, audit, or redesign engagement. Brands that have taken advantage of our services include Adidas, Tommy Hilfiger and IKEA.
Loyalty psychology and best-practice principles
We teach the psychological principles that drive member belonging, habit formation, and sustained engagement, applying biases, heuristics, and behavioural economics concepts directly to loyalty program design and operational decisions. This includes in-depth coverage of the Essential Eight™ principles that define best-practice loyalty programs globally, translated from theory into specific design and optimisation decisions for each client’s program context.
Industry research and insights
We publish a continuously growing body of free loyalty research through our website and newsletter “The Loop”. This includes the Loyalty Technology Solutions Directory, our annual guide comparing loyalty platform vendors across APAC, Europe, and North America without bias or vendor funding; the ‘Do Loyalty Programs Work?’ series, an ongoing collection of evidence-based analyses of real-world loyalty program performance across brands including McDonald’s, Tesco, Bilt Rewards, Disney+, Bath & Body Works, and Costa Coffee; the Essential Eight™ white paper; and a regular stream of articles, whitepapers, and data-driven insights through our insights hub and The Loop newsletter. All research is available free at loyaltyrewardco.com.
Speaking engagements and executive sessions
We deliver keynote presentations and thought leadership sessions at loyalty industry conferences and corporate events globally, drawing on our research, global project experience, and unique view of where loyalty is heading. For organisations at an earlier stage, we offer a free 2-hour loyalty exploration and strategy session that provides an expert-led introduction to loyalty psychology, best-practice frameworks, global trends, and the specific opportunity for the brand, with complimentary copies of the book provided to participants.

What is the CPD certification and why does it matter?
CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development. The CPD Certification Service is an independent UK organisation that certifies training and educational content against a structured quality framework. CPD certification means the Masterclass has been assessed and confirmed to meet the standards required for professional development recognition. For participants, it means the learning is recognised as credible, structured, and applicable to their professional growth, and the Certified Loyalty Expert™ credential they earn carries independent validation.

Certified Loyalty Expert™ is the professional credential awarded to all graduates of Loyalty Programs: The Complete Masterclass™ upon successful completion of the course. Who should attend the Masterclass?
The course is designed for anyone working in or entering the loyalty industry, as well as marketing professionals who want to deeply understand loyalty programs as a core discipline. Participants have included loyalty managers and directors, CRM and lifecycle marketing professionals, product and ecommerce leaders, technology and platform specialists, agency and consultancy practitioners, and senior executives preparing to make major loyalty investment decisions. The course consistently receives strong feedback from both those new to loyalty and experienced practitioners who report finding material gaps in their existing knowledge.
Where and when is the Masterclass held?
The Masterclass is delivered in-person all around the world. Upcoming course dates and registration details are available on the Loyalty Programs: The Complete Masterclass page. Private in-house deliveries for organisations wanting to put a full team through the course simultaneously can also be arranged.
What is the Essential Eight™?
The Essential Eight™ is a set of eight guiding principles for loyalty program design and optimisation developed by Loyalty & Reward Co and published for the first time in the 2nd Edition of Loyalty Programs: The Complete Guide. The principles distil the most important design and operational factors that consistently distinguish high-performing loyalty programs from those that underperform or fail to justify their investment. They are taught in the Masterclass, applied in our consulting work, and available as a standalone white paper at loyaltyrewardco.com.
What is the Loyalty Technology Solutions Directory?
The Loyalty Technology Solutions Directory is a free annual publication produced by Loyalty & Reward Co that compares loyalty technology vendors across APAC, Europe, and North America. It provides comprehensive, unbiased vendor listings with no ratings or commercial relationships influencing the content, alongside expert commentary on the loyalty technology landscape, the distinction between core platforms and specialist add-ons, and the emerging trends shaping platform selection decisions. It is designed for marketers, CRM leads, CX professionals, and agencies evaluating loyalty technology options. Available free at loyaltyrewardco.com/the-loyalty-technology-solutions-directory/.
What is the Do Loyalty Programs Work? series?
Do Loyalty Programs Work? is an ongoing series of evidence-based articles published by Loyalty & Reward Co that analyses the real-world performance of loyalty programs across leading global brands, including McDonald’s, Tesco, Bilt Rewards, Disney+, Bath & Body Works, Costa Coffee, and Domino’s Pizza. The series combines publicly available performance data, academic research, and L&RC’s consulting insights to provide a practical, honest answer to one of the most frequently asked questions in the industry. All articles are free to read at loyaltyrewardco.com/do-loyalty-programs-work/.
Can you run tailored training for our specific team?
Yes. We regularly design and deliver tailored workshops for individual organisations, built around the client’s own program mechanics, data, commercial objectives, and team composition. These can range from a half-day introductory session for a new team through to a multi-day capability building programme for cross-functional groups. Tailored training is particularly valuable during a program launch, redesign, or when onboarding a new leadership team that needs to get up to speed quickly on the program’s strategy and commercial context.
What is the free 2-hour loyalty exploration session?
The 2-hour loyalty exploration and strategy session is a complimentary introduction to loyalty thinking for organisations that are considering a loyalty program or want to understand their specific opportunity. The session covers loyalty psychology and best-practice frameworks, global trends and relevant case studies, and a structured discussion to explore the brand’s unique loyalty opportunity and potential quick wins. Participants receive complimentary copies of Loyalty Programs: The Complete Guide. It is available free to qualifying organisations and is a low-commitment way to assess whether a deeper engagement makes sense.
Do you offer speaking engagements at conferences and events?
Yes. Loyalty & Reward Co speaks at loyalty industry conferences, marketing summits, and corporate events globally, on topics including loyalty program best practice, the future of loyalty, AI and emerging loyalty innovation, loyalty psychology and behavioural economics, and global loyalty trends. We also deliver tailored executive briefings for leadership teams and board audiences. Speaking enquiries can be directed to our team via the Contact page at loyaltyrewardco.com.
Is this only relevant for loyalty teams?
No. Loyalty programs touch Finance, Operations, CX, Ecommerce, and Technology as much as they touch the loyalty team. Education works best when all of these functions share the same loyalty language, understand the program’s commercial objectives, and know what success looks like. We regularly run tailored sessions for cross-functional groups, and our Masterclass consistently draws participants from a wide range of roles. The most common feedback we receive is that the learning was immediately applicable and that participants wished they had attended earlier in their career.
