Editor’s note, May 2026: This article was first published in September 2021. We updated it to reflect the current Maverik Adventure Club, including Trail Points, Punch-It! digital rewards, Nitro and app-based offers.
Be honest, nobody wants to go and get fuel.
If your experience is anything like mine, you’re on your way home and your car keeps pinging. So you pull up to the closest petrol station and re-fuel. You might get a discount, you might not, but it’s likely the last thing on your mind.
Cue the Maverik Adventure Club, an American fuel-centred rewards program that makes a generally tedious experience feel more worthwhile.

How does the Maverik Adventure Club work?
The program is very simple, a trait projected strongly in its tagline: “Save on fuel. Earn freebies.”
Members can sign up online or through the Maverik app. They can then use their account at checkout or at the pump to receive:
- 2c per gallon discount on fuel
- Trail Points on eligible fuel and store purchases
- Punch-It! digital punch card rewards
- Custom offers in the Maverik app
- A sign-up bonus: a free XL fountain drink
Members can also upgrade to Nitro for stronger fuel savings and extra in-store rewards. Nitro adds 10c or more off each gallon, 4x Trail Points in store and selected drink discounts.
Maverik Adventure Club: not your average points program
So, what are Trail Points? Members earn 1 Trail Point per gallon of fuel and 2x Trail Points per dollar spent in store. They can use Trail Points to pay in store, buy selected items or enter Maverik’s Win Stuff sweepstakes.
1 Trail Point = 1 sweepstakes entry.
The sweepstakes run regularly, allowing members to choose how many points they redeem across available prize draws.
The more Trail Points members redeem for each draw, the higher their chances of winning.
Easy!

The prizes? Big enough to land winners on the local news.
Maverik regularly runs high-value sweepstakes with adventure-aligned brands, including Monster Energy and Dr Pepper.
Prizes often include vehicles, outdoor gear, cash or adventure-related rewards. This is followed by generous runner-up rewards, such as gift cards. These prizes are often high in value and promoted with a limited-time feel. This creates urgency, capitalises on scarcity bias and encourages members to spend more Trail Points.
The prizes are also strongly relevant to the brand, which encourages members to feel adventurous, daring and bold. As a result, the program engages those who associate with that lifestyle, or at least aspire to it. And really, who doesn’t?
Maverik Adventure Club freebies and Punch-It! rewards
In conjunction with the sweepstakes, the Maverik Adventure Club also offers Punch-It! digital punch cards. Like the Krispy Kreme program, members can earn punches towards buy-10-get-one-free offers. This effectively utilises the goal gradient effect to encourage progressive engagement with each punch they collect.
I really like how the program allows members to feel rewarded in different ways. Sweepstakes prizes are exciting, but they are harder to win. Punch-It! rewards feel more achievable and give members more control over their preferred reward.
Overall, the Maverik Adventure Club is simple and easy to join. The prizes are harder to win, but they are unique and exciting. Considering we have to fuel up anyway, it’s hard not to join.
